Wanting to sell a gold pocket watch and chain, I searched first for auction houses, and the highest estimate was £3000. Fees and commission would have reduced this figure considerably, with no guarantee of achieving the highest valuation. Burlingtons offered £2600, much more than was offered by a specialist watch dealer, antique dealer and pawnbroker.
