    The Value of Your Rings

The true value of any kind of ring lies in the intricate details and unique characteristics, which make individual pieces valuable assets in their own right.

    • Precious Metals: The choice of metal matters. Rings crafted from platinum, gold, or silver hold inherent value, often increasing with time due to their durability and timeless elegance.
    • Gemstone Brilliance: Gemstones, especially diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and emeralds, can significantly elevate the value of your ring. The Four Cs – carat weight, cut, colour, and clarity – play a crucial role in determining their worth.
    • Brand Legacy: Rings from renowned jewellers or luxury brands often carry a prestige that translates into higher market value. A brand’s reputation for quality and design can command top prices.
    • Craftsmanship: Exquisite detailing, intricate designs, and exceptional craftsmanship contribute to the allure of your ring. Handcrafted or artisanal rings can fetch premium prices.
    • Vintage Appeal: Rings with history, especially those from past eras like Art Deco or the Victorian period, possess a unique charm. Vintage rings are sought after by collectors and can hold substantial value.

What a fantastic company! Like other reviewers, I was a little nervous about a home visit, but Daniel was such a joy to chat to: on email he replied quickly to arrange a visit, and in person he was friendly, polite, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the job. We looked through my various items (including furniture, flatware and jewellery) and he was really forthcoming about why particular items weren't of interest while others were, suggesting also that I kept hold of some items if their personal significance was higher than their value. We itemised everything and the payment transfer went through before he left! All in all such a stellar service – I'd absolutely recommend anyone to contact Daniel with their valuables.

The Challenges of Selling Rings Traditionally

Here are some of the challenges you may encounter when attempting to sell jewellery through traditional methods like auction houses, or high street jewellers:

    • Limited market and low demand: The market for antique jewellery is relatively small compared to contemporary pieces. Many buyers specifically look for modern designs, so the pool of interested buyers outside of specific networks may be limited.
    • Difficulty establishing accurate valuations: Putting an exact monetary value on antique rings can be difficult and requires specialised expertise.
    • High commissions and fees at auction houses: Top auction houses can charge the seller 20-30% or more in buyer’s premiums and commissions. This significantly eats into profits, especially if the ring sells for lower than expected.
    • Inconvenient sales channels: Travelling to auction houses or making appointments with various jewellers can be time-consuming and restrictive compared to online sales platforms.
    • Buyers seek discounts on antique items: Many buyers expect significant discounts when purchasing antiques and vintage items given their age and previous use, making profits lower.
    • Challenges authenticating pieces: Proving the provenance and authenticity of antique rings requires documentation and expert analysis, which can be difficult to obtain. Buyers are wary of fakes.
